Studio Wieki Somers & Metal Forming Specialists

Studio Wieki Somers (Dylan van den Berg and Wieki Somers) works with metal forming experts to employ new methods of fabrication such as forming by explosions, rubber pressing and super plastic forming. By stretching the boundaries of thin sheet metal moulding, they are developing nearly impossible looking shapes for a remarkable cabinet.

Every functional detail has been designed to jointly define the aesthetics of Studio Wieki Somer’s 'Pressed metal cabinet’. The miter joint provides strength and at the same time looks slender and frames the cabinet’s presence. The simplicity, rhythm of the design and the hidden handle make it a mysterious and exciting object and gives the cabinet the distinctive Studio Wieki Somers signature.

Wieki Somers and Dylan van den Berg studied at Design Academy Eindhoven in the late 90’s. In 2003 they established Studio Wieki Somers, which is focused on providing an enlightened reading of the everyday environment. The studio’s oeuvre distinguishes itself by sensitivity for materials, technological ingenuity and fantasy. The designers work for a great variety of international manufacturers, museums and galleries and have established an intensive relationship with Gallery Kreo in Paris.
